What Is A Urodymanic Study?

A Urodynamic Study is actually a SERIES of tests designed to thoroughly evaluate bladder and urethral function. In order to understand every detail of your bladder problem, these tests record very precise scientific data on your bladder's ability to store and empty uine.

Why Do I Need A Urodynamic Study?

We conduct these studies to evaluate leaking urine, difficulty emptying the bladder, frequent urination, recurrent infections, blood in the urine and loss of bladder support.

What Can I Expect?

Depending on your situation and our diagnostic needs, you may have one or more of these individual tests that comprise a Urodynamic Study:

  • Uroflowmetry- Measures how well you empty our bladder.
  • Cystometry- Evaluates bladder storage.
  • Urethal Pressure Study- Determines how well the urethra closes.
  • Electromyography- Assesses the muscle behaviors involved in urination.
  • Pressure Flow Study- Helps us separate pressure problems from muscle dysfunction.

What About My Tests Results?

Your tests wll be interpreted by subspecialists from Bladder Health Network (BHN). BHN's urinary experts have unsurpassed competence and the greatest volume of urodynamic-testing experience in the country. (The subspecialist will bill separately for this service.) You'll get your results from us, along with a recommendation for treatment to help free you from your problem so you can get back to your life.

Keep Your Urinary Diary

Maintaining this two-day urinary diary will help us evaluate your bladder.

Please record each time you empty into the toilet by placing a √ under the Toilet column for each day.

Do the same for each time you have an accident by placing a √ under the Accident column for each day.

Record every time you empty or have an accident in the box next to the time the event occurred. You may put multiple checks in the same box, if needed.

At the bottom of the each day's column, indicate the time you get up, the time you go to bed and the number of pads you used.
